AUDIO VERSION

Jesus reminded His followers of something important, what really matters. The disciples had just returned from a mission, excited because even demons had obeyed them in Jesus’ name. They were amazed by the power they had seen at work through them.

Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:20

Jesus quickly redirected the disciples focus from power to purpose, from success to salvation. He told them that their greatest joy should not come from what they could do, but from who they were in Him.
It is easy to get caught up in accomplishments, even spiritual ones. Maybe you have experienced victories, answered prayers, breakthroughs, or seasons where God used you in powerful ways. Those moments are worth celebrating, but they are not the foundation of our joy. Jesus points us to something far more secure: the fact that our names are written in heaven. That means we belong to Him eternally. Our salvation is not dependent on our performance, but on His grace.

This knowledge brings peace on days when we feel like we have failed or fallen short. When ministry feels dry, prayers feel unanswered, or our faith feels weak, our joy does not have to fade. Our worth is anchored in God’s record, our name inscribed in His book of life. That is a reason to rejoice every single day.

Whether you are in a time of spiritual excitement or quiet faithfulness, let your heart rest in this truth: your name is written in heaven. That is the highest honor, the greatest security, and the most enduring reason for joy. You are known, loved, and eternally remembered by God.

Heavenly Father, thank You that my name is written in heaven. Help me to find my joy not in what I do, but in who I am in You. Keep my heart humble, grateful, and anchored in Your love. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
