FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. Against such there is no law.
Paul paints a beautiful picture of a Spirit-filled life. These qualities: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control, are evidence of God working in and through us.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
When we think about love from God, we think of the kind that goes beyond feelings. It is sacrificial, selfless, and unwavering, much like Jesus has love for us. Joy depends not on circumstances but on the assurance that God is in control. Peace does not mean the absence of problems but rather a calmness that comes from trusting God, even in chaos.
Then there is longsuffering, or patience, which allows us to extend goodwill to others and endure difficult circumstances without giving up. Kindness and goodness are actions, showing compassion and doing what is right, even when inconvenient. Faithfulness calls us to stay true to God and others, keeping our commitments no matter what.
Gentleness, often misunderstood as weakness, is strength under control. It means responding with humility and grace, even when provoked. Finally, self-control is having the discipline to say no to the things that pull us away from God and yes to the things that honor Him.
None of these qualities come naturally to us; they result from the Holy Spirit working in our lives. These fruits grow as we stay connected to Jesus, through prayer, studying His Word, and obeying His guidance. It is not about trying harder but surrendering more, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out.
Today, take a moment to think about these fruits and which ones are evident in your life, and which ones need a little more nurturing? Ask the Holy Spirit to cultivate them in you.
Remember, this is a process, and God is faithful in completing the work He has started in you. Let His Spirit shine through you, blessing everyone you encounter.
Heavenly Father, I am so very thankful for Your Word and the instructions for living a blessed life. When I read and meditate Your Word, it brings freedom to live for You. I love You, Father God, and I want to please You in all I think, say, and do. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
