ROOTED AND GROUNDED
The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Yet those who do not let the seed of the Word of God take root in their lives will get going but not be able to keep going when the tough times come.
"The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail." (Isaiah 58:11)
It is all very well to listen to a sermon or Sunday service and go home on a spiritual high. But ahead is Monday morning or a spouse who does not want anything to do with God's Word at the moment, or maybe a teenager who thinks that they do not need it.
What happens when you offend your friends by sharing what you learned? If your life is filled with rocks and little attempt to cultivate and pull out the weeds and stones, your profession of faith will never stand up to opposition.
Jesus says His seed will test us and find us wanting if we are all noise and no fruit. When a rootless Believer feels the hot sun and burning winds of rejection, they will wither away. We need to grow roots in God's Word so that we can bear fruit, and nothing can move our faith in God!
Ground our lives in God's Word. Live our lives upon the belief that God's Word is the perfect revelation of fact. Once we have settled it in our hearts that the Bible is true and that the Bible is accurate, emotions will play a much smaller role.
Set aside some time each day to study and meditate upon God's Word. Learn how to explore the Bible and delve deep into God's meaning behind every Bible verse. Ask the Holy Spirit to make God's Word come alive to you.
How does God's Word help you live out your faith every day?
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for Your Word, which I meditate daily. I will study so that when challenging times come, I am ready to let Your Word live in me. I ask the Holy Spirit to make Your Word come alive in me today. I hide Your Word in my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
